    Just great …

… are the results of our organic seed donation from the company ReinSaat , which Lena Kremser organized for us. So we could try many new varieties of vegetables and distribute proven ones already to the women.

Many thanks to ReinSaat and Lena Kremser, who have thus made a significant contribution to vegetable diversity.

  • A great success …

    A great success …

… was this year’s Food Festival in Kunikhop with the opening of the greenhouse on the model farm. For the first time, the women proudly exhibited their local vegetables.

… the website of the cooperative is online – Solusisters. Here all products from the farms and the sewing workshops can be presented and also sold. This is a step towards income generation.

  • Especially important …

    Especially important …

… for the girls from Chyangsar, Ghunsa and Merangding is of course the distribution of gifts. All children in the world are the same. This year, in addition to the necessary materials for school, they also wanted hair oil and soap for the older girls and coloring books with pencils for the little ones. It is important for them to receive these items personally. Those who were unable to attend were even “represented” by their grandmothers so that the gift would arrive. ?

Many thanks to our loyal sponsors who make this possible for the girls.

.. depending on age, there are school supplies, fruit and “specialties”
.. everything is packed in a small bag
.. sometimes grandma comes and gets the coloring book ?
.. also from Ghunsa some girls are there, the others get it later

.. the big girls, especially from Ghunsa, are happy that Carola Gosch wears traditional clothes.

  • Adventurous …

    Adventurous …

… is always the journey to Solukhumbu, to the villages. This time it was about 11 hours for 220 km!  The bridges are under construction for 7 years, the landslides keep spilling parts of the roads and this year we also had to grind the brakes and install a headrest on the way there. On the way is @Hasera, our permaculture partner – a bright spot on the trip. Good food and a beautiful, inspiring environment. Thanks for that ?

.. a lot of material for the villages and girls is loaded.
.. first over the highway through the Kathmandu valley
.. the missing headrest is brutally sunk into the seat
.. maybe grinding the brakes again ?
.. in the waiting time the wrecks are explored
.. Break at Haszera – organic and vegan
.. the bridge is just not …

.. here used to be the road, but the landslide could not be removed completely

  • The work in Kunikhop..

    The work in Kunikhop..

… on the model farm has now begun in a flash. The experience of the other villages is very supportive here. The stations for the preparation of the plants were set up perfectly and the seeds from the project were sown immediately. The women brought wood from home, with which the beds in the greenhouse were lovingly constructed. The joy of everyone is great.

This was made possible above all by the support of the Schöck Familienstiftung.

.. our expert helps the women to create the beds in the greenhouse
.. the women have built the beds with their own wood
.. it can be partially sown directly into the beds

.. some vegetables are preplanted here

  • Here we go …

    Here we go …

… also in Kunikhop. In the new greenhouse everything is explained so that the women can build their own greenhouses. Also for all other activities the material has now been distributed. We are excited about the first season.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation, which supports this project significantly.

.. the structure is explained in the finished greenhouse

  • “Karnali in Soluhkumbu” ..

    “Karnali in Soluhkumbu” ..

..  Kunikhop is called because, like Karnali (a very remote province in northern Nepal), there is virtually no access to transportation, education or health services. The remoteness of this place is the reason for Roots for Life’s outreach. In addition to the model farm, the women participate in a certification program. The women came to the two-day training on organic farming with compost and notebooks. They learn mainly through their active participation in digging, planting and mulching, but some writing down and drawing is also done.

Thanks to the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung gGmbH for making this initiative possible.

.. 24 Women from Kunikhop bring herbs from their gardens for the liquid fertilizer
.. the new fields are prepared at the model farm
.. the women learn to make liquid fertilizer from plants
.. despite the cold, they attend classes attentively so that they can apply what they have learned in their fields.

.. the women who can write (especially the younger among them) write down the information on their notepads.

  • The existing composting toilets …

    The existing composting toilets …

… in Kunikhop are not very popular and the women understandably want toilets closer to the house and in a “modern” form. However, instead of toilets with wastewater tanks, a project is to be started in which modern composting toilets can produce compost for agriculture in a low-odor and structured way. For this purpose, a local partner could also be won, who will accompany us in this regard. During an excursion, the women visited the modern composting toilets and were enthusiastic. We are very curious to see how the implementation will succeed.

This is made possible by the financial support of the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung gGmbH.

.. an existing toilet house in Kunikhop
.. the women visit a project where modern composting toilets are built

.. the solid and liquid components are collected extra with this system and processed accordingly
