  • Going to college for the first time ..

Going to college for the first time ..

.. that was a big dream for 11 girls from Chyangsar and Ghunsa. Even though not all the funds for the 2 years are available we decided to support this. The girls applied with very personal letters. It was also important to us that they can give something back. Be it supporting smaller girls in their basic education or working on the model farms.

Our goal is to build a sustainable program here. With the college, the girls will not only be able to play a better role locally in the village, but jobs in administration and education will also be open to them.

Anyone who would like to support us is welcome as a sponsor. Empowerment thus becomes a reality.

  • Jewellery ..

    Jewellery ..

.. and festivals are still an important cultural element in Pokhara, despite Corona. The girls are working enthusiastically on this and we are happy to see the great results with them.

The schools are still closed, but lessons are still held online.

Many thanks to our sponsors, especially now the girls need our full support.

  • Helping to shape ..

    Helping to shape ..

.. the girls from Ghunsa are allowed the support that our sponsors make possible. They are encouraged to stand up for their needs and talk about their challenges. For specific topics, we then also organise experts who can give them important information. This allows us to supplement the education they receive at school significantly.

We are proud of how actively they shape their future together with us.

Many thanks to our sponsors for their long-term support.

  • Kathmandu – Scholarships

    Kathmandu – Scholarships

In some cases, girls had to move from the villages to Kathmandu, either temporarily or long-term, for security reasons or to continue their school education. Here our support extends to the following areas:

    • School fees for currently one girl who lives in a boarding school
    • Material for school and occasionally hygiene articles are provided for four girls in Kathmandu.
    • Material on a case-by-case basis for the approximately 50 girls at Raksha Nepal
    • Food for the families in Kathmandu was especially important during the lockdown, as many families lost their income.
    • Individual support for these girls has also been provided in part by Carola Gosch herself since 2013. By now, there is an intensive and trustful exchange regarding their needs and wishes.

  • School starts ..

    School starts ..

.. in April/May in Nepal and our students should be well prepared for this. In Kathmandu the schools are closed again due to the lockdown, we hope they will stay open in the villages.

In any case, we wish everyone a successful school year.

Many thanks to all our sponsors and private donors who stand behind the scholarship holders.

  • Fewer coughs ..

    Fewer coughs ..

.. and colds were seen in the villages this winter. The reason for this is the masks worn by the women, especially on cold days when working outdoors. The masks also do a good job of protecting the lungs against the smoke in families where cooking is still done on an open fire in the house.

We are happy that we can contribute something to the health of the population in the villages.

Many thanks to the province of Vorarlberg and Chay-ya Austria without whose financial support this project would not have been possible.

  • Successful ..

    Successful ..

.. was the quick effort of all sewing forces to distribute the first masks not only to the students but to all inhabitants in the villages of Chyangsar, Ghunsa, Meranding and Kunikhop.

The sewing is going on diligently but already some things will be distributed before Christmas.

We thank before all Chay-ya Austria and the province of Vorarlberg for making this project possible.

  • Phokara – Scholarships

    Phokara – Scholarships

10 of the 20 girls in the children’s home of OVN near Pokhara have been supported by RfL since 2017.
In addition to school materials, school clothing and warm clothing, the supply of fresh vegetables has also been significantly improved through the construction of a greenhouse.
At the drop-in center, girls at risk can apply for a mentoring program. After an initial phase, they are selected primarily on the basis of their motivation. The aim is to provide them with practical training that will enable them to lead a self-determined life. Five of these training places are financed by RfL each year.

  • Meranding – Scholarships

    Meranding – Scholarships

With the establishment of the cooperative in Meranding came the desire of the women to support their girls in attending school. Education as a prerequisite for a self-determined life for their daughters is a real need for the women in Meranding. The program for the girls in Meranding started in the summer of 2021.

  • Ghunsa – Scholarships

    Ghunsa – Scholarships

With the establishment of the cooperative in Ghunsa and the activities on the model farm also came the desire of the women to support their girls in attending school. Education as a prerequisite for a self-determined life for their daughters is a real need for the women in Ghunsa. The boys in the village have already organized themselves, so in Ghunsa only the girls were included in the program.

    • Materials for school and, on a case-by-case basis, hygiene items are provided for all 35 girls in Ghunsa.
    • Food for all families was important, especially in Corona times, as the income of most of the men has been lost
    • Individual support for the girls has been taking place since 2018 through personal conversations with Carola Gosch and our local partner. By now, there is an intensive and trustful exchange regarding their needs and wishes.
      • In these talks, the situation during menstruation was also discussed with the girls. The lack of sanitary facilities in the schools and the lack of hygiene articles make it difficult for them to attend school at these times. Among other things, this gave rise to the initiative of sewing workshops for washable pads.
    • Group activities such as the library with “non-school books” as well as learning support and English conversation courses were actively requested by the president of the “KidsClub”.
