… are the changes that have happened in Ghunsa in the last 3 years. A model farm with greenhouses, water storage, training hall, solar dryer as well as many great mixed culture vegetable beds has been built.
This has laid the foundation for sustainable development of the village.
All this was possible through the financial support of Unser Vorarlberg and the cooperation with Chay-ya.
… our college girls from Chyangsar and Ghunsa have settled in Salleri. Soon the big final exams for the first year will come and we wish them all the best.
Soon the next girls should start, so we are looking forward to new sponsors – please contact us at office@rootsforlife.info ?
Many thanks to our sponsors, without whom this project would not be possible.
.. The small room serves as a sleeping and learning space, at the bed who reads – at the table who writes... In the small kitchen the girls prepare their food and another sleeping place is here... The girls are happy about the visit, they are only nervous when it comes to English conversation... A laptop for all of them to use in the future to practice English conversation via Zoom.
.. One of the girls needs a smart phone, because documents in the college are transmitted digitally.
… the website of the cooperative is online – Solusisters. Here all products from the farms and the sewing workshops can be presented and also sold. This is a step towards income generation.
Many thanks to Land Vorarlberg, which supports this project financially and to Chay-Ya for the cooperation.
.. 400 km, some days on the back of donkeys these organically grown seed potatoes were brought to Samagaun Gorkha, in the west of Nepal. Here the climate is similar to Solukhumbu and there is also a lot of enthusiasm for organically grown produce.
It is especially great when women in Solu now send their seed potatoes to women in Gorkha to support organic farming there. We wish good thriving and are happy.
Many thanks to the Sagarmatha Milijuli Mahila Cooperative for the good work and Fair Styria as well as Land Vorarlberg for supporting the projects in Chyangsar and Ghunsa.
Special thanks also to the cooperation partners in Gorkha Tergar Charity Nepal, Jhigme Lama
.. The potatoes are planted with the help of an ox plow in Solu.. The farmers bring the harvest to the model farm for weighing.. The packaged potatoes waiting for transportation.. they are then unloaded for further transport.. and transported to the destination with mules.. the potatoes have arrived in Gorka after the long journey
… for the girls from Chyangsar, Ghunsa and Merangding is of course the distribution of gifts. All children in the world are the same. This year, in addition to the necessary materials for school, they also wanted hair oil and soap for the older girls and coloring books with pencils for the little ones. It is important for them to receive these items personally. Those who were unable to attend were even “represented” by their grandmothers so that the gift would arrive. ?
Many thanks to our loyal sponsors who make this possible for the girls.
.. depending on age, there are school supplies, fruit and “specialties”.. everything is packed in a small bag.. sometimes grandma comes and gets the coloring book ?.. also from Ghunsa some girls are there, the others get it later
.. the big girls, especially from Ghunsa, are happy that Carola Gosch wears traditional clothes.
… the girls from Chyangsar, Ghunsa and Mergangding prepared a joint program with dance performances. The speech was prepared in English, a big step for the girls. They learn English grammar and vocabulary in school, but are very shy to speak.
Many thanks to our sponsors who support the girls.
… is always the journey to Solukhumbu, to the villages. This time it was about 11 hours for 220 km! The bridges are under construction for 7 years, the landslides keep spilling parts of the roads and this year we also had to grind the brakes and install a headrest on the way there. On the way is @Hasera, our permaculture partner – a bright spot on the trip. Good food and a beautiful, inspiring environment. Thanks for that ?
.. a lot of material for the villages and girls is loaded... first over the highway through the Kathmandu valley.. the missing headrest is brutally sunk into the seat.. maybe grinding the brakes again ?.. in the waiting time the wrecks are explored.. Break at Haszera – organic and vegan.. the bridge is just not …
.. here used to be the road, but the landslide could not be removed completely
… is the great success in our projects. The women in Ghunsa are proud of their compost, which they have prepared as they learned. Next on the agenda is the production of cabbage seeds. What our expert also learned is the great idea of using straw in the greenhouse to protect the plants from frost. Of course, this is immediately included in the program.
… the scholarship holders from the villages are on their own in Salleri, the district capital- But they enjoy the life where they only have to take care of themselves and the college. And are proud as one of the first to have reached this step of education. Of course our partners Racedi and Kusang continue to look after them intensively. We all wish them much success in their education.
Many thanks to our sponsors who make this possible.
.. Salleri, the new home of our college girls.. together with Racedi and Kusang they enjoy the meeting in the sun.. nice for the girls to be able to care only about school
.. they take the school very seriously and are proud to be the first in the program
… what is happening right now at the model farm in Ghunsa. Many things have been prepared for a long time, but now there is always great news. The first products are being made in the drying house, the greenhouse for the new nursery is ready, the self-built fence protects the beds. The women from the certification program are taking a close look at everything so that they can then use it themselves.
The professional support provided by our partners Hasera and Social Work Institute can thus have a lasting effect.
Many thanks to the state of Vorarlberg and Chay-ya Austria, through which this project was made possible.
.. the first vegetables are dried.. our expert explains the drying process to the women.. in this greenhouse the first nut and apple trees are grown
.. the women have built their own fences around the vegetable fields
