  • The second time …

    The second time …

… we are able to support 10 girls, this time from all 4 villages, to complete their higher education with the 11th and 12th grade. They live in Sallerie in rented rooms and have their own kitchen. Lena Kremser organised pretty blouses which they were very happy about.

Many thanks to our sponsors, without whom all this would not be possible.

.. the girls from class 12 with the new pink blouses.
.. the new rooms are bright and friendly
.. in the kitchen the girls can take care of themselves

  • 2022 ..

    2022 ..

… we secure education for more than 200 girls

… a new livelihood is created for almost 300 women in 4 villages through organic vegetable cultivation.

… the first 50 women have already been officially certified.

.. 3 model farms in Chyangsar, Ghunsa – since 2022 also in Kunikhop – are fully operational.

.. Merangding already has a greenhouse, next year also a training hall.

We are proud of the women of Sagarmatha Milijuli Mahila Cooperative, who are taking their destiny in their hands and living incredible change in a short time.

    A great year 2022 – we look forward to 2023 ?

.. over 200 girls are looked after by us and also like to party with us
    .. Chyangsar certifies 35 women
    .. Ghunsa certified 26 women
.. Kunikhop completes training hall and greenhouse

    .. Merangding opens the greenhouse

  • Merry Christmas …

    Merry Christmas …

… to all supporters 2022, all friends and partners of Roots for Life and their families.

We have worked fantastically together as a team, achieved a lot, had a lot of fun and also have a lot planned for the next year.

We hope that you will continue to accompany us in 2023 and support us as much as possible. Whether as sponsors (please contact us at office@rootsforlife.info) or with one-off donations and sponsorships.

  • The apple trees ..

    The apple trees ..

.. in Chyangsar are now protected by a massive deadwood hedge. Together with Bibek Dhital from HASERA, we were able to convince the local authority to include this kind of fence in their support programme in addition to wire mesh fences.

Many thanks also to Kusang Tamang for the energetic implementation. Once again an element could be implemented according to permacultural principles. We hope to see more fences like this in the region.

.. the branches are installed between the supports
.. not so easy to implement in steep terrain
.. over time the greenery falls off, animals nest and a green inhabited “wall” is created
.. the animals can no longer enter the apple orchard through the fence.
  • No walk in the park …

No walk in the park …

… was the survey on the mental health of the women in the four villages for the psychology team. In just a few days, all the villages were visited and various discussions were held. With this we want to give the women a space

With this, we want to give the women a space to talk to professionals, possibly ask for help or simply share their mood for change through the projects.

Many thanks to Dr Ravi Raj Timasina and his team, as well as to Racedi Pathak and Kusang Tamang for their great work.

.. the roads were impassable so we went on foot from village to village.
.. an opportunity for the women to speak out.
.. there was also a questionnaire on the impact of the project.
.. some topics were discussed in small groups.
.. everyone was very serious about it

.. partly improvised on the floor in the new training hall

  • Let there be light …

    Let there be light …

    … in Chyangsar and Ghunsa

Until now, there were only small local hydropower plants here and a photovoltaic system in Chyangsar. Now the national electricity connection is in place, which will also be able to power appliances in the future. In Chyangsar the light is already on, in Ghunsa the installations are completed and the electricity should come in the next few weeks.

We are happy for the women who will now have many more opportunities to work with simple machines.

.. lots of material had to be brought to the villages.
.. new switch boxes, billing by units – brand new for everyone ?
.. so that the training halls can be well supplied

.. in Chyangsar even with a switch between photovoltaics and the grid

  • Ready to go …

    Ready to go …

… the remaining 20 women from Ghunsa and another 20 from Chyangsar are now ready for the PGS programme. The aim is to certify them next year in spring. This means above all the trainings by the experts and some basic material has to be financed.

We are very happy about this and are now working hard to organise the money.

Every donation is very welcome – Christmas is coming soon, maybe a good idea for a present?

.. partly improvised on the floor in the new training hall
.. especially for the children, the organic vegetables mean more health.
.. Selling organic vegetables as an income is a great opportunity for many.
.. after the women have seen the difference in the gardens, they now want to join in too

.. pure maize fields will soon become historical pictures

  • New ways …

    New ways …

… we want to go with the women in the villages of Solududhkunda also with regard to toilets. At the moment, there are all kinds of options, from very rudimentary to septic tanks, far away as a rickety hut to a little stone house next to the dwelling house. In the sense of permaculture, the cycle can be closed here too and everything can be used. Taking into account local possibilities, we are working on a prototype that works with wooden floors. This should not only support agriculture, but also improve the situation for the women.

Many thanks at this point especially to HASERA, with whom we have already tested a lot.

Now we hope for financial support so that the first 50 households can be equipped with composting toilets.

.. new for the women is the use of the material from the composting toilets.
.. the clean installation with wooden floor works well
.. the material is collected directly underneath
.. the prototype was discussed and developed together.

.. the women with the prototype installed are happy about the beautiful toilets

  • An overview …

    An overview …

… of all the activities of Roots for Life was given by Carola Gosch at a charity event. A video of the interview with a summary of the great work of Roots for Life has also been created – take a look.

  • Move …

    Move …

the women were able to move their sewing machines into the converted “stable” on the model farm. In addition to a store, there is now also a bright room where the fabrics are stored. The women not only sew masks and washable sanitary napkins here, but also bags and clothes for their own use or for the local market. Although the workshop was set up as part of the project, it is already functioning completely independently under the management of the cooperative. Empowerment final ?

Many thanks to Fair Styria for the initial help and congratulations to the Sagarmatha Milijuli Sana Kishan Mahila Krishi Sahakari Sanstha Limited for the independent work.

.. a lot of practice the women could get with the masks and sanitary napkins
.. the building was constructed with wood
.. also masks XL could be fitted and sewn on site
.. it is possible to work under dry and light conditions
.. for all models there are fixed cutting plans

.. for the washable sanitary napkins also wooden templates
