    Passing on knowledge …

… is a major concern for the women who carried out intensive training on the management of cooperatives in Kathmandu.

Some specialised topics were passed on to a larger group in a training course in Chyangsar. Representatives of the authorities were also invited and were very interested. Some of them also took part and will make use of our ‘experts’ if necessary.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for supporting the women in the villages.

.. Representatives from all four villages took part in the extended training
.. the authority was invited to participate to work on the topic of co-operatives
.. Members from the boards of the co-operative inform other women
.. the women are already presenting the content as a matter of course
.. some special topics are supervised by external trainers or commented on by government representatives

.. a good lunch is always part of it

  • Microorganisms …

    Microorganisms …

… are also used in permaculture to improve the results. Some selected farmers have been trained in this and will use it for the first time on their fields and also on the model farm. Using mushrooms, ash, cow dung and other ingredients, a so-called ‘super compost’ is produced.

We are already very excited about the results.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for their fantastic support of the farms.

.. the new “super compost” is produced
.. all the ingredients are mixed and moulded into balls
.. of course the theoretical background also needs to be explained
.. one of the ingredients is wood ash

.. the microorganisms have been purchased and added

  • A new year …

    A new year …

… has begun on the model farm in Ghunsa. In addition to the already well-rehearsed work on the model farm, the irrigation hoses for the ‘excellent’ farmers were also distributed.

Many thanks to @Schöck Family Foundation for the great support of the farms.

.. the farmers received the hoses for irrigation
.. this is a great help, especially for the more sensitive vegetable plants
.. the plants for the next season are ready
.. the women take seedlings for their private fields
.. the mixed crops on the model farm are also well advanced or still planted with winter vegetables

.. the grafted fruit trees from the greenhouse are now being sold

  • For 7 years …

    For 7 years …

… the women from the co-operative have been coming together to present their products. A variety of vegetables, seeds and traditional dishes are presented and awarded prizes. This event, which is always attended by government representatives, increases the appreciation of organic farming.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for supporting the farms.

.. the variety of vegetables continues to grow
.. the women proudly bring everything in their baskets
.. the seeds are exchanged and also serve to build up the seed bank
.. Government representatives repeatedly praise the initiative
.. the organisation is already carried out independently by the cooperative

  • Food …

    Food …

… and cooking together are an essential part of all celebrations. It starts the day before, everyone brings something, we cut, cook, laugh and gossip together.

This exchange is important in order to master difficult situations together.

Many thanks to Fair Styria for supporting this project.

… everyone gets a prepared meal
… potatoes are peeled for the curry the day before
… busy working in all rooms of the model farm
    .. Traditional pasta is deep-fried
.. individual specialities are tasted at the festival

.. the tasting and award ceremony is fun for everyone

  • Material for the farmers …

    Material for the farmers …

… for the best of the village. The women were duly honoured at the meeting of the cooperative. They shared their experiences with the others. We are sure that the women will continue to work well in the future, even without external support.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for its long-term support of this project.

.. on their own initiative, the women built a great staircase to the training hall from ‘leftover bricks’
.. the women proudly talked about their experiences
.. Eggplants were successfully grown for the first time this year
.. many things are grown in the greenhouse and distributed to the women

.. the best among them received some materials

  • A warm welcome …

    A warm welcome …

… in Merangding. The women not only distributed the traditional flower wreaths, they also cooked in advance and prepared everything perfectly. We really enjoyed exchanging ideas in this pleasant atmosphere. It’s great to see how the women stick together and put what they have learnt into practice.

This fantastic work is only possible thanks to the support of the Schöck Family Foundation, for which we are very grateful.

.. a warm welcome in the Merangding training hall
.. various traditional dishes were cooked
    .. cooked in large pots
.. Respect and esteem are important for working together
.. empowered and self-confident, the women also speak openly about critical issues

    Viewed from above …

… you can also get a feel for the location of the model farms. The stone-paved road in Merangding is new. This is a great improvement for the village, as it makes it much easier to reach during the monsoon.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting the model farms.

.. the vegetable fields of the model farm in Kunikhop are protected by a fence
.. in Ghunsa, the protection of the terraces by the ‘water’ paths is particularly important
.. in Merangding the road is paved with stones, under the road is the new orchard
.. in Chyangsar, the model farm is only accessible on foot on the slope

  • Enthusiastic …

    Enthusiastic …

    Enthusiastic …

… we are all delighted with the success of the first tree nursery. As there had never been a tree nursery of this kind before, it was an experiment and also a risk. But the grafted trees are developing well and soon fruit will also be available on the family farms. This will enrich the children’s diet in particular.

In the future, these fruit trees can also be sold and thus generate income for the women of the co-operative.

We are delighted and would like to thank Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting this project.

.. the larger trees and mother trees are cared for outdoors
.. grafting takes place in the greenhouse, not all small trees work well
.. the expert accompanies the cultivation
.. even the small cuttings have their first flowers
.. there is enough space for the fruit and nut trees in the greenhouse

  • The model farm…

    The model farm…

in Ghunsa is exemplary run by the farm manager. The mixed crops are now cultivated largely independently, new seeds are constantly being trialled and plants grown.

An essential part of this is also the use of the compost toilets and thus the perfect compost.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting the initiative.

.. the mixed crops are harvested and replanted again and again
.. the seeds are grown and pricked out in the greenhouse
.. always something new – now also strawberries

.. only organic fertiliser is used, compost must always be available
