  • In many kitchens..

    In many kitchens..

… it will be much warmer in Merangding this winter. As this space is often also the living and sleeping area, everyone is happy to be able to keep the window bars closed when cooking. The new ovens have a chimney pipe and no longer spread the smoke around the room. This also significantly increases safety for the children.

Many thanks to Fair Styria, who responded flexibly to our needs.

.. the new stove was installed next to the old fireplace
.. it’s also safer for the children this way
.. some have also freshly painted the kitchen
.. cooking is also better with large pots

.. the smoke from the open fireplace is still visible on the wood

  • Dried vegetables and herbs…

    Dried vegetables and herbs…

… are prepared for marketing in Chyangsar and Ghunsa. Whether traditionally or in the Solar Dryer, dried goods can be transported more easily and without time pressure.

Dried vegetables, also as traditional pickles and tea are 2 good options.

Many thanks to Fair Styria for supporting the cooperative on its way to commercialisation.

.. traditionally dried on the veranda of the farmhouse
.. the vegetables can be cooked directly in winter
.. pickled as pickles and eaten as a side dish with the daily meal
.. Herbs can be gently dried in the solar dryer
.. the herbs will be marketed as organic tea

.. other products are also being trialled to distribute samples

  • Happy …

    Happy …

… the women in Kunikhop are also happy about the compost toilets. Especially in this village, it was very important to us to improve the sanitary conditions. In addition, agriculture is benefiting. We are looking forward to the great results.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for the construction and continuous support of the model farm.

.. Joy about the composting toilet
    .. Transport is also fun
.. a lot of material is distributed
.. it takes up to 2 hours to get to the house on the narrow paths.

… together we put everything into the prepared toilets.

  • Documenting to learn ..

    Documenting to learn ..

… is one of the principles of the Farmers Field School. During the training, the women record everything on the model farm in detail to see what leads to good results, what needs to be paid attention to, what does not work.

The women, who can write well, write down quantities, times and which seeds were used.

This intensive support is made possible by the support of the Schoeck Family Foundation

.. the results of the field are entered in prepared formats.
… the field is looked at very closely and results are written down
.. the “history” of the plants is also documented in the greenhouse
.. while mum is labelling, the daughter is trying to find an alternative use ? .
.. as a reward for the good work, each woman is allowed to take a little harvest with her

  • Great compost …

    Great compost …

… the women in Ghunsa can now produce themselves with their composting toilets. However, correct use is an important prerequisite, so in addition to training, there is also a poster to “look up” for each toilet ? .

After use, liquid can be used immediately, solid can be used for agriculture after 6 months of proper composting.

One of our women in Ghunsa has been doing this since we tested the first prototype and already has fertile compost. So the others can learn from her too.

Many thanks to Fair Styria for funding the toilets.

.. after the training, all the parts are distributed
    .. the posters are discussed
.. on the narrow paths one has to walk home from the farm several times
.. our “pioneer” on her farm

… soon the compost can be spread

  • Through the mud …

    Through the mud …

… the van with the stoves had to fight its way to Kunikhop. It is still the rainy season, so some of the roads are hardly passable. The women were all the happier to be able to carry the stoves home safely on foot.

Now only the pipe has to be led safely outside, then nothing stands in the way of a smoke-free warm kitchen ?

Many thanks to @fair styria, whose support made this possible.

.. after several attempts, the transporter can move on.
.. the women are very happy
.. the stoves are also transported in the basket on the head.
.. especially in Kunikhop, some of the houses are far away from the road.

.. the pipe still has to go through the roof, then it is safe to cook.

    Together at last …

… our girls can live in Sallerie from autumn. For the 11th and 12th grade they cannot stay in the villages, the walk to school would simply be too long with more than 4 hours. So far we have only been able to rent individual rooms, now they can live here together and we hope to be able to run the lower 2 floors as a hostel in the longer term.

We are currently working intensively on the financing for this.

Many thanks to the sponsors who have accompanied the girls until the end of grade 10. We hope to get more support for the higher education which is starting well.

… the rooms are in a relatively new house.
… they are bright and already furnished so they can be moved in.
… the kitchen could be ready for all the girls
… the girls could grow their own vegetables in the small garden.

.. the cooperative could use the business premises as a synergy.

  • Safer and warm …

    Safer and warm …

… are the new stoves for the women in Merangding. They can cook with them and the smoke goes outside through the flue. For the children, too, there is less danger of reaching into the open fire or falling.

    The joy is great ?

Many thanks to @fair styria for the financial support.

.. the stoves are curiously inspected immediately after delivery
.. instead of open fireplaces, stoves with flues can now be used
.. like everything else, the material is carried on the back and into the house on foot.
.. proudly presenting the installed stove

.. instead of the open fireplace the metal stove is now used

  • The wood …

    The wood …

… in Chyangsar also needs care. All wooden parts of the training hall were impregnated with a good oil so that they will last for a long time.

We are happy how beautiful it has become and thank our supporters.

.. we are proud of our own window design
.. the rooms and beds are shining again
.. the kitchen shines in new splendour
.. the beautiful grain of the wood also comes into its own even better in the sewing workshop

.. The wooden posts were also well impregnated

  • Eagerly …

    Eagerly …

… they train for the next round of certification. First there is theory – men are also starting to take an interest, then everything is practised under the strict supervision of the experts. Of course, there is always fun where many women work together and the children are also present.

We are already looking forward to rich yields and new varieties.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for their great support.

… some of the theoretical lectures are also attended by men as “onlookers”.
… the plants are grown in the cooperative’s greenhouse.
.. Fun practising for the women and the little ones
.. the women plant their own seeds in the prepared beds.
… as a contribution of the women, compost is brought from home
