    Together at last …

… our girls can live in Sallerie from autumn. For the 11th and 12th grade they cannot stay in the villages, the walk to school would simply be too long with more than 4 hours. So far we have only been able to rent individual rooms, now they can live here together and we hope to be able to run the lower 2 floors as a hostel in the longer term.

We are currently working intensively on the financing for this.

Many thanks to the sponsors who have accompanied the girls until the end of grade 10. We hope to get more support for the higher education which is starting well.

… the rooms are in a relatively new house.
… they are bright and already furnished so they can be moved in.
… the kitchen could be ready for all the girls
… the girls could grow their own vegetables in the small garden.

.. the cooperative could use the business premises as a synergy.

  • Simply top …

    Simply top …

… are our scholarship girls from Chyangsar, Ghunsa, Merangding, Kunikop and Kathmandu. ALL 14 have passed the SEE (the Nepalese central examination after grade 10), 2 of them are top of the school. These 3 girls with excellent results are currently fighting for admission to nurse training in Kathmandu. We keep our fingers crossed for them.

Thank you to all the sponsors who believe in our girls. Now that we are moving towards higher education for the first time, we are hoping for more sponsors – please spread the word ? and contact us at office@rootsforlife.info.

  • In front of the curtain …

In front of the curtain …

… we would like to call on our farm supervisor Jaya Laxmi Magar ? today. Since she has been running the farm, we can see what has already been learned and what is possible. The pre-breeding in the greenhouse has worked out great and already in June she can proudly sell the harvest. External customers still have little chance, the vegetables go to friends of the farm who are only too happy to buy them.

We thank Jaya Laxmi Magar for her great work.

Many thanks also to all those who have supported the establishment of the model farm in Chyangsar over the past years and ensure its ongoing operation. Especially Fair Styria and the Schöck Family Foundation.

.. Broccoli – a new vegetable for the region that is doing very well
.. Zuccini – also behind the house, every space is used
.. Cauliflower – was known but not grown – now very much in demand
.. the harvest is proudly weighed

… packed in boxes the team takes it to Kathmandu

  • Insects …

    Insects …

… as beneficial insects or pests are also part of the Farmers Field School. The women exchange their experiences, learn interesting facts about them and finally “experimental plants” with the insects in the “net” are also planted for study purposes. We are already very curious to see what can be observed here.

Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for making this form of learning possible for the women.

… the women are proud when they can actively contribute themselves.
… the training hall is used inside and outside
… the insects are presented and described on boards.
… the boards were put together by the women together with the expert
.. Nets for the experiments are sewn
.. Plants are put under the bonnet with and without insects
  • Putting into practice …

    Putting into practice …

… the women are allowed to put everything they learn at the Farmers Field School into practice in their private greenhouses and fields. Our experts accompany them and discuss specific challenges. Twice a month they are on the road to visit other women.

The Farmers Field School in the four villages was made possible by the support of the Schöck Family Foundation. Many thanks for this.

… our expert checks the ripeness of the seeds.
… some women have warded off spring frosts with straw
.. Fertiliser is made from herbs
.. Winter vegetables can be harvested
…New vegetables are planted in private greenhouses.

… each individual greenhouse is discussed

  • Farmers field school ..

    Farmers field school ..

…is the name of the in-depth programme with which we accompany a selected group of women – here in Chyangsar – throughout the year, in addition to the certification. The aim is to consolidate what has been learnt and to work directly on ongoing challenges.

We are proud of the women who give their best to learn a lot.

Many thanks to the Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting this programme in all four villages.

… some can take notes, others have fun.
… our expert explains all the details theoretically at first
… the training takes place between the houses, sheltered from the wind.
… in the greenhouse we then work practically
… the pre-breeding of plants is a core part of the training.

… covered with straw everything germinates faster

  • Super…

    Super…

… our film about the model farm in Ghunsa is ready.

Congratulations to the Sagarmatha Milijuli Mahila Cooperative, Social Work Institute and HASERA for the great results. It was and is a pleasure to work with the women of Ghunsa ? .

Many thanks to Chay-Ya Austria for the joint handling and to Land Vorarlberg for the financial support.

  • Exciting …

    Exciting …

… are the first attempts to graft fruit trees. The nursery now grows its own rootstocks that are adapted to the climatic conditions. Special fruit varieties are then grafted onto these.

We are keeping our fingers crossed and are already very curious to see whether this will work. The trees could then be distributed in the villages but also sold.

Many thanks to all our supporters who make this possible.

.. practising together with an expert
.. very precise work must be done here
.. the next generation is growing up
.. there is plenty of room for it in the greenhouse.
.. the seeds are sown again

.. some of the young trees can already go out into the open

  • Great …

    Great …

.. what the women in Kunikhop have achieved in less than 2 years. The founding of a cooperative was followed by a long search for a suitable area and its purchase. With a lot of effort, the area was prepared, a greenhouse and a training hall were built, and sample fields with new vegetables were planted.

The women can be very proud of themselves.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for the financial support of this project.
