  • For the first time …

    For the first time …

… the school dresses for all villages are sewn by the women themselves. In 2 workshops (Merangding and Kunikhop), a few women each receive training on how to measure, cut and sew. The school dresses are then produced as part of the training.

In addition to training for the future, the hard-working seamstresses also receive a wage for the finished school dresses.

This means that the added value for the school dresses of our protégés remains in the villages.

Here are the first steps in Kunikhop.

Many thanks to all sponsors who make this particularly sustainable purchase possible ?

.. the annual measurement is very exciting for everyone
.. right over the garment, it doesn’t have to be skin-tight either
.. then they learn how to draw the pattern

.. the little ones are already involved ?

  • Climate change …

    Climate change …

… in Nepal can be seen, among other things, in heavy rainfall at times when it should have been dry for a long time. This not only makes harvesting much more difficult, our Food Festival was also significantly affected. Nevertheless, it took place and a further 60 women were certified as organic farmers in Kunikhop. During the ceremony, the men cooked for everyone and the rain stopped just in time for the food distribution.

We would like to congratulate and thank the Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting this project.

… the women went to the event with large umbrellas for up to 2 hours
.. it was particularly remarkable how well the women organised and moderated the entire programme themselves
.. in addition to many speeches, the ceremonial distribution of the shield and certificate
.. while the men were cooking

.. fortunately the rain stopped while the food was being distributed

  • Hair bands connect …

    Hair bands connect …

… now also the projects in Solukhumbu and Pokhara. Some girls from the OVN project are learning tailoring. They produce hair bands from leftover fabric. We bought these from them and distributed them to the women and girls in the villages. It was a lot of fun and good business for the seamstresses ?

.. over 800 hair bands were produced
.. The basis was material left over from tailoring
.. it was distributed to the women and girls in the villages
.. it was happily used at the next opportunity
.. the girls also like to wear it

.. for Carola Gosch it is part of the important basic equipment

  • A different kind of training …

A different kind of training …

… was completed this year by some women from the agricultural co-operative in Kathmandu. Bookkeeping, co-operative management and financial statements. Unfamiliar and difficult topics for the women. After the training, they were accompanied monthly in the village throughout the year.

This enabled them to prepare the audit of the cooperative independently for the first time in 2023.

We would like to congratulate and thank Fair Styria for their support.

    .. a certificate of a different kind ?
.. lots of numbers to work on paper this time
.. some of the women were in Kathmandu with children
    .. active cooperation was important
.. then the “real operation” every month

.. in every village with our expert

  • On site …

    On site …

… the developments on the model farm could be admired and the next steps discussed. The women reported on what they had learnt and where they faced challenges.

However, they are increasingly able to take care of these themselves and find good solutions.

Many thanks to the Schoeck Family Foundation for the financial support in the villages.

… all the women and the Austrian visitors stand proudly in front of the finished model farm
.. the fields are continuously planted with mixed crops
.. reports and discussions are held together in the training hall
.. vegetables are grown in used sacks next to the fields
.. harvesting for the evening meal

.. the joy of the great results is visible for everyone

  • The PGS…

    The PGS…

… or Farmers Field School certification is taken very seriously. The women’s knowledge is lovingly prepared and tested in all villages after the annual training programme. Insects have to be identified, their benefits or harm and how to deal with them known.

Fortunately, everyone passed and will receive their certificate ? – congratulations.

Many thanks to @schöck for their support in making these programmes possible.

    .. Testing stations in Ghunsa
.. there are also tasks on the field in Merangding
.. Exam in Chyangsar – talking is also allowed ?
    .. the results are entered

.. the preparation was a lot of work – thanks Rajkumar ?

  • Unbelievable …

    Unbelievable …

… what the girls and the team have done with the rented hostel in Sallerie in just a few days. The rooms are bright and clean, a perfect environment to learn well.

Further adjustments will be discussed and planned together in autumn.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for supporting this important initiative.

.. the rooms are bright and dry
… this is how they were before the design
.. there are also tables for studying
    .. they were designed together

.. the girls are happy about their new home

  • Happy …

    Happy …

… the women in Kunikhop are also happy about the compost toilets. Especially in this village, it was very important to us to improve the sanitary conditions. In addition, agriculture is benefiting. We are looking forward to the great results.

Many thanks to Schoeck Family Foundation for the construction and continuous support of the model farm.

.. Joy about the composting toilet
    .. Transport is also fun
.. a lot of material is distributed
.. it takes up to 2 hours to get to the house on the narrow paths.

… together we put everything into the prepared toilets.

  • Through the mud …

    Through the mud …

… the van with the stoves had to fight its way to Kunikhop. It is still the rainy season, so some of the roads are hardly passable. The women were all the happier to be able to carry the stoves home safely on foot.

Now only the pipe has to be led safely outside, then nothing stands in the way of a smoke-free warm kitchen ?

Many thanks to @fair styria, whose support made this possible.

.. after several attempts, the transporter can move on.
.. the women are very happy
.. the stoves are also transported in the basket on the head.
.. especially in Kunikhop, some of the houses are far away from the road.

.. the pipe still has to go through the roof, then it is safe to cook.

    Together at last …

… our girls can live in Sallerie from autumn. For the 11th and 12th grade they cannot stay in the villages, the walk to school would simply be too long with more than 4 hours. So far we have only been able to rent individual rooms, now they can live here together and we hope to be able to run the lower 2 floors as a hostel in the longer term.

We are currently working intensively on the financing for this.

Many thanks to the sponsors who have accompanied the girls until the end of grade 10. We hope to get more support for the higher education which is starting well.

… the rooms are in a relatively new house.
… they are bright and already furnished so they can be moved in.
… the kitchen could be ready for all the girls
… the girls could grow their own vegetables in the small garden.

.. the cooperative could use the business premises as a synergy.
