when the monsoon in Nepal reliably ended in mid-September? Heavy rain, the rivers are rising again, the airport and public transport are repeatedly suspended. The subsequent sunshine triggers further landslides.
‘Our highway’ towards Solukhumbu was closed on 4 October 2025 until further notice due to landslides and flooding.
So once again, it is uncertain whether, when and how we will be able to drive to the villages.
..I flew to Nepal for the first time and was impressed by the approach. Almost 20 years and what feels like a million aeroplane photos later, the approximately 30th approach is still impressive. Today, I associate it not only with scenic beauty but also with an inkling of the challenges this country faces.
I am looking forward to a good time with our Nepalese team. Thank you to all the sponsors who have made our work possible for 12 years now.
.. this time, Himalaya at dawn.. after the Indian lowlands come the low mountain ranges and the landing.. women power at reception in Kathmandu
.. After 16 hours of travelling with only 2 hours of sleep, the cappuccino at the hotel tastes especially good ?
… the ban on 26 social media platforms has awakened a generation. Thousands of young people protested against corruption, inequality and an old elite, some of whose representatives have been in power for over 10 years. Every day, around 2,000 young Nepalese leave the country because they have no prospects. But many want to stay, raise their voices and change the country.
There is now a transitional government that is supposed to organise new elections.
We wish them all the best and hope that our projects can also contribute to this.
Many thanks to all our supporters who have made this work possible for over 10 years.
.. these girls need prospects in their own country.. education is the most important tool for dealing with difficult situations.. girls have a right to a good life in their own country
.. ‘building bridges’ – in studies, in everyday life, in politics
…that our farm manager in Merangding once again has a safe home. After the landslide destroyed her house last year, everyone pitched in to help, and now she has a safe place to live again.
We wish her all the best.
.. a new house was built, mostly from materials from the old house.. she finally has a kitchen again.. the oven was rebuilt
…and water management are essential components of sustainable agriculture in Chyangsar. Our experts have shown the women some ways to combat pests naturally. Light traps, yellow boards, and red flags help with this. Water from the kitchen is collected through filters in a small pond and used for watering.
… is a major concern for the women who carried out intensive training on the management of cooperatives in Kathmandu.
Some specialised topics were passed on to a larger group in a training course in Chyangsar. Representatives of the authorities were also invited and were very interested. Some of them also took part and will make use of our ‘experts’ if necessary.
.. Representatives from all four villages took part in the extended training.. the authority was invited to participate to work on the topic of co-operatives.. Members from the boards of the co-operative inform other women.. the women are already presenting the content as a matter of course.. some special topics are supervised by external trainers or commented on by government representatives
… the women sell their vegetables through the cooperative to so-called ‘vegetable brokers’. This generates income for the women and for the cooperative.
This sale is still supported at the beginning, especially in order to negotiate everything with the brokers and stabilise the structures.
.. the first transporter is successfully loaded.. a lot of administrative work also needs to be prepared.. the people responsible in all the villages were given a mobile phone for marketing purposes.. the vegetables are collected on the farm.. everything is weighed and packed into sacks
… of the cooperative, the members of the boards received further intensive training in accounting and management. All four villages sent their managers to Kathmandu. Based on their own documents, they were able to work on how to prepare the books, especially for the audit.
For the women, this is very unfamiliar work, which they have already been practising over the past few years with support. By the end of the year, they should be able to do this all by themselves.
We wish them the best of luck.
Many thanks to the Schöck Family Foundation for supporting the sustainable empowerment of women.
.. the women’s training took place in Kathmandu.. Documents were prepared and presented.. eating together strengthens the community.. the current documents from all villages served as a basis.. the interaction between the local and joint co-operatives is not so easy to understand
.. of course there were certificates again at the end
… were the experiences the girls had while helping at the food festival in Kathmandu. Understanding the activities on the farms and appreciating their traditional cuisine are also important for them. They were responsible for registering, selling the vouchers and serving the food.
They invited their friends, teachers and acquaintances. They were also proud of their culture.
Many thanks to the sponsors who support these girls.
.. the girls were happy to help out.. Binu brought her teachers with her, who spoke very positively about her.. Asha was responsible for the registration
.. the vouchers were also sold by a scholarship holder
… was the food festival in Kathmandu. The women from the cooperative in Solukhumbu were very unsure whether people would even be interested in their food. But the first day was already well attended with around 80 guests, and by the end of the day all the prepared dishes had been eaten. The enthusiasm was so great and was also shared on social media that over 100 guests were served the next day.
The women and the team were over the moon. They now have confidence in the quality of their work and are already planning the next events.
Many thanks to Fair Styria for supporting our marketing activities.
… the women are delighted with their success.. the guests buy vouchers for the food.. traditional dishes are served.. Tea is prepared in traditional vessels.. the potato bread is eaten faster than it can be fried
… experiences are proudly shared at the communal dinner afterwards
