The existing composting toilets …
… in Kunikhop are not very popular and the women understandably want toilets closer to the house and in a “modern” form. However, instead of toilets with wastewater tanks, a project is to be started in which modern composting toilets can produce compost for agriculture in a low-odor and structured way. For this purpose, a local partner could also be won, who will accompany us in this regard. During an excursion, the women visited the modern composting toilets and were enthusiastic. We are very curious to see how the implementation will succeed. This is made possible by the financial support of the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung gGmbH.

Fresh compost …
… in the fields of the model farm in Chyangsar, which will give our next harvest the strength and energy it needs. Also these activities are done together with our permaculture expert and our women can still learn a lot by the support. And the good yield shows them that the work is absolutely worth it. Additionally, this knowledge will also be important for our certification, so “compost be thankful”. Many thanks to @fair styria, which supports this project sustainably.

The first …
.. Women in Merangding are trained in detail and receive the material for cultivation at home. All of them are totally eager and excited about this new opportunity. The plan was to have 25 members for the new cooperative, but the number of interested women is increasing daily and so we are already at 35. The work is progressing rapidly, in 2 days the basic training could be carried out as “field training”. It is nice that many women were already able to participate themselves. For this training, the women also brought their equipment from home, which will be supplemented if necessary. So they learned composting, mulching, creating raised beds…

In no time at all …
… the women in Kunkhop created a model farm on the new cooperative fields. They came not only with their tools to work the soil but also with ready compost, animal manure and herbs for the preparation of the soil. The action was professionally accompanied by our partner Hasera and the women could learn a lot for the cultivation of the fields. After the strenuous work in this 2-day training, of course, they also had to eat well. We are happy about the enthusiasm and hope for fields full of healthy vegetables. The project is mainly supported by the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung gGmbH.

Dried vegetable products …
… are to be produced in Ghunsa in the future. The women are very happy about the solar dryer that was purchased at the National Innovation Center and assembled by the technicians. They are very excited to distribute the food dried with the solar dryer. Any organically certified, locally grown produce can be processed, such as radishes, mustard spinach, cauliflower and many more. This solar dryer could be a great source of income for the women in Ghunsa. But also the cooperatives in Chyangsar, Merangding and Kunikhop could benefit a lot. We thank Land Vorarlberg and our partner Chay-ya Austria for the financial support of this innovation, as well as…

Warm jackets …
… provided now also for the children in Kunikhop. What a joy. There is no heating in the houses and in the school and the winter is very cold. For us Europeans hardly imaginable. That is why Roots for Life has been distributing the popular fleece jackets for years, which keep warm and fit under a jacket. These cozy jackets are not even taken off to sleep. We thank our sponsors who make this possible. If you would also like to contribute as a sponsor, we would be happy to hear from you at office@rootsforlife.info
