Kathmandu
In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, RfL began to take action in 2013. Together with Rakhsa Nepal, RFL championed initiatives to combat sexual violence against girls and forced prostitution. Ensuring school attendance for up to 50 children living in the care of Raksha Nepal (affected girls as well as children of those affected) was a key focus. The rehabilitation of the residential building after the earthquake in 2015 as well as legal intervention in cases of rape were also part of the cooperation.
Financially, Raksha Nepal is no longer supported by RfL, as good funding from other organizations in Kathmandu has arisen here after the earthquake and Roots for Life has gone more to the roots, namely rural areas, after understanding the poverty and violence dynamics.
Nevertheless, there are some girls who are now living in Kathmandu – in families or in boarding schools – and need our support.
