• Kathmandu

In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, RfL began to take action in 2013. Together with Rakhsa Nepal, RFL championed initiatives to combat sexual violence against girls and forced prostitution. Ensuring school attendance for up to 50 children living in the care of Raksha Nepal (affected girls as well as children of those affected) was a key focus. The rehabilitation of the residential building after the earthquake in 2015 as well as legal intervention in cases of rape were also part of the cooperation. Financially, Raksha Nepal is no longer supported by RfL, as good funding from other organizations in Kathmandu has arisen here after the earthquake and Roots for Life…

  • Phokara

Phokara is the second largest city in Nepal. Our project with OVN (Opportunity Village Nepal) goes back to the beginning of our activities in Nepal. Through the intensive cooperation with Raksha Nepal to support sexually abused girls and women, RfL was able to gain a lot of experience here. Thus, we can support OVN since 2017 to run a drop-in center for girls at risk, as well as a house for already affected girls.

  • Phokara – Scholarships

10 of the 20 girls in the children’s home of OVN near Pokhara have been supported by RfL since 2017. In addition to school materials, school clothing and warm clothing, the supply of fresh vegetables has also been significantly improved through the construction of a greenhouse. At the drop-in center, girls at risk can apply for a mentoring program. After an initial phase, they are selected primarily on the basis of their motivation. The aim is to provide them with practical training that will enable them to lead a self-determined life. Five of these training places are financed by RfL each year.

  • Meranding – Scholarships

With the establishment of the cooperative in Meranding came the desire of the women to support their girls in attending school. Education as a prerequisite for a self-determined life for their daughters is a real need for the women in Meranding. The program for the girls in Meranding started in the summer of 2021.

  • Meranding – Income

For the women in Meranding, we supported the establishment of a sewing workshop in 2020 to generate income. In the future, income will also be generated from vegetable cultivation. Sewing workshop: the sewing workshop was established in 2020 and six women were trained by the already experienced women from Chyangsar and Ghunsa. Together with the other workshops, about 5,000 masks were sewn and distributed in the villages and schools. In the future, washable pads will also be sewn here. Plants and vegetables: As soon as a model farm and possibly a PGS certification program can be started, the women of Meranding could also sell vegetables and plants.      …

  • Meranding – Cooperative

With the establishment of a sewing workshop in 2020 for the production of masks as protection against Covid-19 infections, the women of Meranding were included in the cooperative Sagarmatha Milijuli Sana Kishan. In the meantime, the procedure is well known, there is a sub-organization with its own account, the village is represented in the board of the cooperative and uses the already existing knowledge about economic management of the cooperative.

  • Kunikhop – Income

For the women in Kunikhop, we supported the establishment of a sewing workshop in 2020 to generate income. In the future, income from vegetable cultivation will also contribute. Sewing workshop: the sewing workshop was established in 2020 and five women were trained by the already experienced women from Chyangsar and Ghunsa. Together with the other workshops, about 5,000 masks were sewn and distributed in the villages and schools. Later, washable bandages will also be sewn here. Plants and vegetables: As soon as a model farm and possibly a PGS certification program can be started, the women of Meranding could also sell vegetables and plants.

  • Kunikhop

Kunikhop village is closer to the trekking routes than the other supported villages, and offers easier access to work for the men (depending on the resurgence of trekking tourism after the 2015 earthquake and the Covid 19 pandemic). However, there is still no road, no community building, hardly any greenhouses and thus a very strong interest of the women to build something together here. Therefore, the initiative model farm and certification of women for organic vegetable production will start here in 2021.

  • Ghunsa – Scholarships

With the establishment of the cooperative in Ghunsa and the activities on the model farm also came the desire of the women to support their girls in attending school. Education as a prerequisite for a self-determined life for their daughters is a real need for the women in Ghunsa. The boys in the village have already organized themselves, so in Ghunsa only the girls were included in the program. Materials for school and, on a case-by-case basis, hygiene items are provided for all 35 girls in Ghunsa. Food for all families was important, especially in Corona times, as the income of most of the men has been lost Individual support…
